The Water World story began when the company founders Con Koumoulas and his wife, Tina, began investigating the commercial possibilities of purified bottled water in comparison to traditional spring water. They first researched the potential of bottling purified water based on the overwhelming strength of its health benefits. They discovered that:

• the strength of the industry lay in by passing the traditional Australian approach of reaching consumers through retail sales outlets and that;
• bottled water delivered direct to customers (either businesses or private homes) in 15 litre returnable polycarbonate bottles on a scheduled fortnightly basis would give consumers enormous benefits;
• pure water which was chilled and dispensed through a refrigerated cooler unit obtained from the company for a modest monthly service fee would add value to the product and service.

Armed with this knowledge Water World Pure Drinking Water was established in Sydney in August 1999 and began test marketing the concept. By July 2000 the company had over 500 customers and with a proven product began developing the business in earnest.
